Meet Dr. Meagan Peek: Your Trusted Pediatrician at Direct Pediatrics

Get to know Dr. Meagan Peek

Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Glasgow, Kentucky. I have been interested in medicine since I was in middle school, and my passion only grew from there. My specific love for pediatrics actually began while I was in high school teaching piano lessons to elementary school children.

Where did you go to school? I am a proud Cardinal! I completed both my undergraduate degree (B.S. in Chemistry with a Business Concentration) and my medical degree at the University of Louisville. It was a wonderful experience, and I was honored to be a GEMS Scholar and graduate Cum Laude. Following medical school, I stayed in Louisville to complete my pediatric residency at the University of Louisville and Norton Children's Hospital in 2014. After that, I moved to St. Louis to complete my pediatric cardiology fellowship at Washington University in 2017.

Tell us about your medical career. After completing my fellowship, I served as a Pediatric Cardiologist at Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio from 2017 to 2019. I then joined Cincinnati Children's Hospital as a Pediatric Cardiologist, eventually becoming the Regional Director of Fetal Cardiology from 2022 to 2025. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of conducting research, presenting at national conferences, and contributing to medical literature on pediatric and fetal heart care. In August 2025, I opened my own direct primary care practice, Little Hearts Pediatrics.

What led you to pursue obesity medicine? In 2026, I officially became board-eligible in obesity medicine. During my years as a cardiologist, I saw firsthand just how many medical problems in children are a direct result of unhealthy weight gain. I realized I wanted to do more than just manage the resulting cardiovascular symptoms. By pursuing obesity medicine, I now have the specialized tools to help fix the root problem, allowing me to guide children and families toward long-term, sustainable health!

Why Direct Pediatrics? I originally founded Little Hearts Pediatrics because, as a physician and a mom of two medically complex children, I experienced the flaws of the traditional healthcare system. I wanted a model where I had the time to truly listen to my patients. While building my own solo practice was incredibly rewarding, I am absolutely thrilled to join the collaborative team at Direct Pediatrics! Being part of this team allows us to offer more comprehensive services and resources to our patients. Additionally, getting to share the load with other wonderful providers means I get to wear a few less hats than I did as a solo practice owner—freeing me up to focus entirely on what I love most: caring for your kids.

Family and hobbies? My husband and I met while attending the University of Louisville, and we have now been married for 21 years. He is a dedicated first responder, and together we have two wonderful boys—one in preschool and one in elementary school. Our family is completed by our beloved French bulldog. When I'm not working, I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy playing the piano and participating in both the vocal and handbell choirs at my church.

What's your philosophy for pediatric care? One of my absolute favorite things about pediatrics is the ability to follow patients throughout their lives and develop long-lasting relationships with both the children and their families over time. I believe that I have at least two patients in every single visit: the child and the parent. My goal is to provide excellent, evidence-based medical care for the patient while carefully taking the time to listen to, address, and validate the parents' concerns and fears.
